From an article in a glossy contemporary art magazine that came in the post this morning:

'A crucial moment in the astonishing June auction in Paris, Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, when Lot 101 - a painting titled 'That's Rot' - by Pranksky (2008) fetched a remarkable €1,095,150 / ,343,968 against an estimate of €600,000-800,000 - despite tumbling contemporary art sale prices. Buyers from all over the world competed in the sale, once again demonstrating the international stature of the Paris Contemporary Art market. Commenting after the sale, the Director of the auction house's Contemporary Art department in Paris, said: “Since we started our Contemporary Art sales at in Paris in 2006, our main focus has usually been on the advancement of French Contemporary art and French Contemporary artists. We have transformed the auction profile for artists like Pierre Soulages, Georges Mathieu, François Morellet, Martial Raysse and Simon Hantaï by achieving new world record prices for their works of art. In each of our sales, one or several artists have received worldwide exposure – thanks to our international network and reach – and today it was the turn of the artist known as 'Pranksky' from the United Kingdom to get the international recognition that he so deserves.”

According to Prank Sky Media, who have officially disclosed that they were the previous owners of the piece, the proceeds from the sale will enable their organisation to make a much needed injection of funds into coverage of the 'Turf Wars' both in Europe and the USA. The company was apparently very close to financial ruin but the recent sale of the Pranksky artwork, puts them firmly back into the media arena. The price that was achieved probably has much to do with the celebrity endorsement of this particular Pranksky piece but it could also be because it had such superb provenance, having been hung for over a year in Prank Sky Media's boardroom in Highgate, London. It has been reported elsewhere that the piece was inspired by SIr Pranksky's first encounter with Paris and shows certain similarities with leading works of American Pop Art. Although Sir Pranksky was unavailable for interview with our magazine after the sale, there are currently rumours that he has been in discussions with the anonymous new owners of the piece. They are so 'delighted' with their purchase, that they will be commissioning the artist for 'several other' works in this series.'

In fact none of us here at HQ know who actually bought the piece, but we are trying right now to prise that information out of our Boss...
